The Spiritual Tradition of Bhajan & Kirtan
What is Bhajan?
Bhajan is a devotional song performed solo or in small groups, expressing love and surrender to the divine. It's meditative, melodic, and often follows classical ragas. In Indian spiritual practice, bhajans create a direct connection between the singer and God.
What is Kirtan?
Kirtan is a communal call-and-response chanting where one person leads a mantra and the group repeats it. It's energetic, participatory, and creates collective spiritual upliftment. Kirtan is central to Bhakti Yoga (the yoga of devotion).
At Krishna Music School, we honor these ancient traditions while making them accessible to international students. You'll learn respectful participation in Indian devotional culture and take home practices you can integrate into yoga classes, meditation sessions, or personal spiritual routines.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between offline and online sessions?
Offline sessions are 1 hour long, held in-person at Ranji Temple in Pushkar with hands-on harmonium practice, tabla rhythms, and immersive group experience. Online sessions are 40 minutes via Zoom, focused on vocal techniques, mantra pronunciation, and harmonium demonstrations. Both are $10 per session and taught by the same experienced instructor.
Do I need any prior music or singing experience?
No! Our workshops are designed for complete beginners. We start with basic breathing techniques, simple melodies, and pronunciation. Many students have never sung before and do wonderfully in both offline and online formats.
How do I book a session? Can I start anytime?
Book via WhatsApp at +91 99286 58520 at least 3 days in advance. You can start any day Monday-Saturday. For offline, choose morning (8-9 AM) or evening (5-6 PM) batch. For online, we'll arrange flexible timing based on your time zone.
Should I book single sessions or the 5-session package?
If you're in Pushkar for a few days, single sessions work great. But the 5-session package ($45 instead of $50) gives you better value, deeper learning, practice materials, certificate, and systematic progression through multiple bhajans. Available for both offline and online.
I don't speak Hindi or Sanskrit. Will I be able to learn?
Absolutely! We teach everything in English with clear pronunciation guides. You don't need to understand the language to sing mantras – we provide translations and explain the spiritual meaning of each bhajan.
What's the difference between bhajan and kirtan?
Bhajan is typically a solo or small group devotional song with a melody, while kirtan is call-and-response group chanting where the leader sings a line and everyone repeats. Both are forms of Bhakti (devotional) music. We teach both styles in our sessions.
Do I need to bring my own harmonium or instruments?
For offline sessions, we provide all instruments (harmoniums, tabla, manjira). For online sessions, if you have a harmonium, great! If not, we'll still teach you vocal techniques and show chord demonstrations on our instrument.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Cash (USD/EUR/INR), UPI, PayPal, Bank Transfer, and Stripe. Full payment is required when booking to confirm your slot. Payment details will be shared via WhatsApp.
What's your cancellation policy?
Cancellations made 48+ hours before the scheduled session get a 50% refund. Cancellations within 48 hours or no-shows are non-refundable. You can reschedule once for free with 24-hour notice.
Will I receive any materials to practice at home?
Yes! All students receive lyric sheets with transliteration, audio recordings of bhajans learned, and practice guidelines. Package students (5 sessions) also receive harmonium chord charts and a certificate of completion.
Can I take private 1-on-1 sessions instead of group?
Yes! Private sessions are available for $15 per session (1 hour offline or 40 minutes online) with personalized curriculum and flexible scheduling. Contact us via WhatsApp to arrange.
Is this a religious practice, or can anyone participate?
Bhajan & kirtan are spiritual practices rooted in Hindu devotion, but people of all faiths (or no faith) are welcome. Many students approach it as a musical and meditative practice. We teach with respect for all backgrounds.
