Retreat Guidelines & Terms of Participation

Krishna Music School — Summer Music Retreat 2026

Upper Bhagsu, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh

Please read carefully before submitting your registration.

Welcome

We are honoured to welcome you to this musical journey. This retreat is a sacred space for learning, growth, and self-discovery through the ancient traditions of Indian classical music — Singing, Mantra Chanting, Kirtan, Bhajan, and Raga. To protect the experience for every participant, we ask all students to read and agree to the following guidelines before joining.

1. Full Participation Commitment

This retreat is a progressive, 10-day program where each session builds directly on the last. By registering, you commit to attending the complete duration of your chosen batch.

  • Early departure is not permitted once the retreat has begun.
  • No refund will be issued for early departure, regardless of the reason.
  • If you are unable to complete the retreat due to a genuine emergency, please contact us directly and we will do our best to support you.

2. Payment & Cancellation Policy

  • 50% advance payment is required to confirm your spot.
  • The remaining balance is due on Day 1 of the retreat.
  • Full refund is available if cancellation is made 30 or more days before your batch start date.
  • Cancellations made within 30 days of the start date are non-refundable.
  • Spots are non-transferable to another person without prior written approval from Krishna Music School.

3. Learning Approach — Patience Over Speed

Our teaching method is step-by-step, carefully sequenced so that each lesson lays the foundation for the next. We ask all participants to:

  • Trust the process and avoid rushing ahead.
  • Follow the curriculum in the given sequence without skipping chapters.
  • Understand that progress in Indian classical music is gradual, deep, and deeply personal.

Those who practice patience will experience the greatest transformation.

4. Mindset & Environment

Music is born from feeling. A calm, open, and joyful mind creates a far richer voice and musical expression than any amount of technical effort. We ask all students to:

  • Come to each session relaxed, positive, and present.
  • Embrace mistakes as part of the learning process — they are welcome here.
  • Avoid stress, excessive self-criticism, or comparing yourself to others.
  • Support and encourage your fellow participants.

We maintain a judgement-free, uplifting environment for everyone. Any behaviour that disrupts the peace or comfort of fellow students or teachers may result in removal from the retreat without refund.

5. Attendance & Discipline

  • Attend all sessions — both morning (9:00–10:00 AM) and evening (5:00–6:00 PM) — punctually.
  • If you must miss a session due to illness or emergency, notify your teacher in advance.
  • Follow the teacher’s instructions carefully and respect the flow of each class.
  • Phones and recording devices should be kept on silent during sessions. Recording for personal practice is permitted with the teacher’s permission.

6. For Participants with Prior Experience

If you already have a background in singing, harmonium, kirtan, or any other aspect of Indian music, you are most welcome. We ask that you:

  • Approach our teaching methods with an open mind, even if some techniques differ from what you already know.
  • Allow yourself to relearn foundational elements — this often unlocks new depths even for experienced students.
  • Share your experience with the group where appropriate, and encourage beginners around you.

7. Accommodation

Accommodation is not included in the retreat fee. Upper Bhagsu and the surrounding area offer a wide range of guesthouses and hotels to suit every comfort level and budget, from ₹300 to ₹1,500 per night. We recommend arriving 1–2 days early to settle in before the retreat begins. Contact us after registration for personalised guesthouse recommendations near the teaching venue.

8. Health & Safety

  • Inform us of any health conditions, physical limitations, or dietary requirements at the time of registration.
  • The retreat involves sitting practice for extended periods — comfortable, loose clothing is recommended.
  • Krishna Music School is not responsible for any personal health incidents, loss of belongings, or travel-related issues during the retreat.

9. Photography & Testimonials

Group photos and retreat moments may be shared on Krishna Music School’s social media and website. If you prefer not to be photographed, please inform your teacher at the start of the retreat. Your wishes will be fully respected.
